President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday described as a "son of a
whore" the suspect in the massacre of a family in San Jose del Monte,
Bulacan earlier this week.
In his speech during the 50th founding
anniversary of Davao del Norte, Duterte cited the Bulacan killings to
slam human rights groups who supposedly kept on defending criminals. "Most of the time, itong human rights [groups] defends criminals. Wala
na silang kliyente na hindi kriminal," he said in his speech.
"Kita mo yung isang araw, or was it four days ago. A grandmother, a
wife, three children, patay. Anong sinabi ng p---ina niya? [What did
that son of a whore say?] 'Trip trip lang yun sir,'" he said.
Last Tuesday, the family of security guard Dexter Carlos found his
family massacred inside their home in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
The suspect, Carmelino "Miling" Navarro Ibañez, said that he was under
the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the crime. Ibañez, however, would later test negative for drugs. A second suspect,
Ibañez's friend, has already been arrested, as investigators have
identified other "persons of interest."
Carlos on Friday made an
appeal to Duterte, saying the suspects behind the massacre should be the
first to be executed if the death penalty were to be restored.
Blind eye
In his speech, Duterte accused human rights advocates of turning a blind eye to victims of crimes.
"Everyday, there is an addict that is killed, there is also an innocent
person who is held up, namatay... and these idiots just keep a blind
eye," he said.
"Pero ito, you can never hear the human rights, or
the human rights lawyers... even just an expression of sympathy or
condemnation. Walang pakialam ang mga g-go," he added. —
